Small Business Advice That Applies to Every Entrepreneur

For small business owners and franchisors alike, one of the best pieces of advice I received (and something I strive to live each and every day) is to become a student of your industry. When my husband JD and I started BrightStar Care in 2002, we immersed ourselves in the world of home healthcare. And when JD and I decided we wanted to grow BrightStar Care through the franchising model, I also became a student of that: franchising. Franchising is not merely a distribution model or solely an expansion strategy, it is a business unto itself, and I attribute this to the success of BrightStar Care. Continued learning has been key to the growth of my business, which is one of the reasons I wrote "Grow Smart, Risk Less" - to help entrepreneurs do the same with their businesses.
